Bohol Beach : Back to Bohol by an88e

Looking Back: Bohol - Aug. 2006 Bohol. This is one place that i would want to visit time and again. I went here this time with my two cousins from Cebu. We boarded the fast ferry craft, Oceanjet bound for Tagbilaran. There were no more seats available in the air-conditioned section of the cabin so we seated on the second floor open-air section of the craft. This time i had a digital camera and i started taking pictures of the pier in Cebu. As the ferry sailed, i noticed that my digicam stopped functioning. I was getting upset because eight years ago, my friends and i went to bohol and my camera also stopped working after taking a few shots. I thought to myself my cousin brought her camera along so i can have just my picture taken by her :) I won't let my non-working camera ruin this trip.

After arriving at the port of Tagbilaran, we went to BQ Mall, had lunch at Mogolian Stop and bought snacks and bottled water in the supermarket. We took a cab going to Panglao Island. We first stopped at Alona Beach looking for accommodation. We settled in Dumaluan Beach Resort (where

my friends and i stayed eight years ago). It has renovated the nipa fan room cottage., it has a swiiming pool and there is a new building under construction. I think most of the rooms are now air-conditioned.

As soon as we refreshed ourselves from the travel, we headed to walk along the beach. I think this area of Dumaluan Beach and Bohol Beach Club has the widest white sand beach in Panglao. It was low tide that noon. Surely my cousin took my pictures for that day.

We seated near the reception area after our beach walk and was planning our city tour the next day. We were observing the coming and going of the cabs and vans for hire. We were able to get the number of Varescon taxi and asked if they can pick us up the following day and also asked if we can hire their cab for a city tour. They said yes. We were so glad about this since it is expensive to hire a van if you are travelling by two's or three's.

In the morning, i began to check on my camera again. . . i'm just so happy

that it began to work. So having breakfast early, we had time to swim and walk along the beach again. It was high tide that morning, as we were walking along where the colorful beach flags of Bohol Beach Club was stuck to the ground, the guard on duty was stationed (where the boundary between Dumaluan and Bohol Beach) called our attention. He said we can walk along the beach (down there where the water is) but not at this dry part of the shoreline. It was high tide, we were just passing through. I told my cousin, it's like deja vu, eight years ago, my friends and i were walking along the beach infront of Bohol Beach Club, the guard on duty also called our attention.

I like Panglao Island but this part is a sad thing. In Boracay, you can swim infront the beach of a high-end resort, walk and sunbathe there too, they won't shoo you out.

Bohol Beach – BOHOL-holic

Like a treasure chest teeming with nature’s gems, the island of Bohol is a scenic harmony of amazing landscapes and seascapes. It takes pride in its mountains as well as its beaches, simultaneously featuring the world-famous Chocolate Hills and the famed shores of Panglao. Located at the Central Visayan region, Bohol can be reached through a 75-minute flight from Manila or a leisurely 25-hour cruise. Some people make a side trip to Bohol when vacationing in Cebu since it’s just a 4-hour ferry ride away to Tagbiliran.

Nicknamed as “cave country,” Bohol lures adventurers with over 30 caves in each town, many of them still unexplored. Danao hosts one of the more popular historical caves aptly called Francisco Dagohoy Cave after the Filipino patriot. Particularly interesting about this cave is its intricate maze-like interior, with a secret underwater passageway to dry land.

Time spent in Bohol can be either historic, cultural, religious or possibly a pleasant combination of all three. You can retrace its rich past by visiting the various sites and structures that have played an important role in the formation of Philippine history. Barangay Bool identifies the spot where the blood compact between Datu Sikatuna and Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, historically known as the first Treaty of Friendship, took place more than three centuries ago. Or you might want to see the Baclayon Church, one of the oldest religious institutions in the country, which also features a vast collection of cultural artifacts.

The Bohol Day Trip by travelbug

Just next to the well known island of Cebu is the lesser known island of Bohol. In February, I did the see-it-in-a-day tour of the main sightseeing spots on the island. I didn't see everything on the tour due to rain, but I got more out of the tour than most by inviting two locals to go along with me for the ride.

In February, 2007, I found myself for a week on Alona Beach on Panglao Island, just off the tip of Bohol Island in the Philippines. Although my intention was to get a week of work done in tropical comfort, I of course did the one day tour of the major spots on Bohol. While some of it smells of tourist trap, I would recommend it to anybody. And when you do make the trip, make sure you bring along some locals for the ride.

In my case, I had made friends with the staff at a local resort restaurant I ate at. On my third day I booked a taxi, and told the staff that I had two open seats for anybody who wanted to go. Cherryl and Annaliza both said yes, and so we planned to meet at 9AM at my resort the next morning. They arrived on time – Philippino time, that is – 20 minutes past 9AM. The taxi driver was cool about it, and we just spent the time chatting with the resort guards until the girls showed up.

The first stop on the tour was the Chocolate Hills. A group of closely packed peaks – 1268 to be exact – that are all that's left of an uplifting of ancient coral reef deposits. They are called "chocolate" due to the brown hue they take during dry season. We climbed to the the top of the viewing sight, which is located at the highest peak in the area.

Bohol Chronicles of biochemist-ej

I was so lucky that I got sponsored by my Tita Meb to have an
all-expense-paid (airfare, accomodation, food, etc.) trip to Bohol. I was doubly
excited because it would be the first time that I'll be riding a plane!
Woohoo! I dreamt of becoming a pilot when I was young, so it was some
sort of fulfillment to my dream. :P

Day 1: April 21
We (Tita Meb, Tita Lyn, Tita Lilly, EJ) boarded PAL flight 778 bound to
Tagbilaran City around 2:30pm. My first airplane ride was so
well-documented that they literally took photos of my every step (from giving the
ticket, walking thru the plane door, sitting on my seat...). I didn't
have the window seat though because we didn't go to the airport early
enough to reserve a window seat. Anyway, my first plane ride was fun...
kamukha kasi ni Kim Chiu yung isang stewardess! :P

We arrived at Tagbilaran Airport and was fetched by one of Bohol Beach
Resort's car service. Ika nga nila "VIP treatment." Anyway, we arrived
at Bohol Beach Club at around 4pm. Wow. White beach ang bumati sa amin!
Panalo!

All we did during the first day was take pictures and more pictures.
Tapos, dinner time came. We had their buffet. Baboy mode na naman. Akala
ko sa med school lang tataba, pati pala bakasyon.

Night time came and I was doing this simultaneous remote meteor sight
seeing with angela (who was in puerto galera). Sad to say, we didn't see
any. Crappy horizon.

Bohol, Philippines : Island Paradise

Here is a tale of my last Philippine island-hopping trip before I took the big leap to the USA.

I wasn't alone the last time I went to Bohol, Philippines. The boyfriend of my sister from the U.S. arrived and my younger brother who works in Manila managed to squeeze in a little vacation. The trip from Cebu island (Queeen city of the Southern Philippines) to the neighboring Bohol island was exciting, with all the fun things we did as a group.

Supercat, the supposedly fastest sea vessel going to Bohol, stopped its operation for quite sometime now, after it suffered major losses due to strong competitions from much newer companies offering lower fares. However, the lower the fare, the longer is the travel time. The trip was an hour and a quarter long, contrary to what I was used to, an hour and a half with Supercat.

For a businessmen who travels a lot between the islands and every tick of the clock is precious, the travel time difference is too much.

Going back to my trip story. When we reached Tagbilaran city, the capital of the island, we were upset to realize that the van service from the hotel where we would be housed, didn't arrive to fetch us. We were forced to take a cab. It wasn't a problem shelling out a few hundred pesos for a 30 minute ride. The problem was how to find a cab in a city dominated by tricycles!

We waited for almost an hour and only saw one cab that was occupied! Sweating all over, we were so desperate to be in the hotel and just take the necessary respite. Finally, we were able to negotiate a jeepney for a lower rent, around two hundred pesos.

Bohol Beach : Back in Panglao

Soon enough, we will leave Bohol and go back to Cebu for our flight. But just before that, we bummed a bit along the shores of Panglao itself. We were too preoccupied throughout our trip that we hardly had the time to spend on the beach where we actually stayed. So after the island hopping we spent a considerable time in the island to sunbathe and bathe. The boys did their exhibitions as well. I was hoping for a last luck for tan.

Bohol is a wonderful place with both promoted and undiscovered spots. I cant wait for june 25 when I will be back there! I will surely go back to the places that amazed me and visit a few new places like Pamilacan Island. There were a lot of foreigners there. Mind you, Koreans didn’t invade the place. There were Caucasians as well. people are friendly super! ;) A serene place perfect for relaxing and de-stressing! That’s Panglao. I really cant wait to go back!

I love this vacation! I swear! It’s costly but it’s worth every peso.
